RANDOLPH MCIVER Obituary

Randolph DeWitt McIver, age 83, of Colonial Heights, died Sunday morning, October 26, 2014. He will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, daddy, and PopPop. He will be remembered by his colleagues as a loyal friend, a willing co-worker, and a dedicated supervisor for Virginia Power (VEPCO). Randy, the youngest of nine children, was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, on December 31, 1930. He was predeceased by his parents and his eight siblings.

Randy spent his childhood summers at Carolina and Wrightsville Beaches. He attended Wilmington College (presently UNCW), joined the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving for three years in the Far East. He still enjoyed his military unit reunions with his Air Force buddies. After returning to the States, he enrolled and graduated from N.C. State University with a degree in civil engineering. He was employed by Virginia Power for 30 years, starting his career in the transmission department designing power lines and towers. He held many positions throughout his career including vice president of the southern, northern, and finally the central division of the company. In 1986, he was involved with the private sector initiatives effort to establish the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Randy was a charter and active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Petersburg. In retirement, he attended Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church and was a member of the adult choir. He was an active participant in all the communities where he lived and worked, to include the United Way and Rotary Clubs. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Planters Bank of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Randy enjoyed playing golf with the Colonial Heights Senior Golf Association. He most enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at his second home in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jessie Daughtry McIver and daughters, Carolyn Crinkley (Jim), and Mary Kay Shelley (Jimmy); grandchildren, Sarah and Stuart Crinkley, Neal and Kyle Shelley; and many special nieces & nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014, in the Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Virginia for their kind and excellent care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church Renovation Fund, 211 Lynchburg Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Arrangements by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
