George Case Obituary
George Edward Case, III (Ned) passed away on April 15, 2018, with a ring of family around his bed. Born in Spartanburg, SC to Jean Hollerith and George E. Case, Jr. (Pat), Ned was the eldest of three boys. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Fuller (Betty) in 1981, and they built their family and life in Atlanta. He was a graduate of the Spartanburg Day School (Sports Hall of Fame), the University of Virginia (with honors, Phi Delta Theta), and the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business (MBA). A hard-working and skilled businessman, Ned built his career with finance leadership positions at Delta Color, Inc., and Bank of America and predecessor companies. He spent eighteen years as the Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of GMT Capital Corp. Devoted to the educational opportunities of young people, Ned was an Atlanta board member of the KIPP Schools and the Center for Christian Study at the University of Virginia. He was a founding board member and Treasurer of the Southeastern Hedge Fund Association. A member of First Presbyterian of Church of Atlanta for most of three decades, he served as an Elder and taught Sunday School. For more than twenty years, he aimed at nothing and seldom missed with men of The Breakfast Club. In addition to Betty, his beloved wife of thirty-seven years, Ned is survived by their children George Case, Daniel and Catherine Case and grandchildren Zachary and Sandy. He is preceded in death by his father Pat and is survived by his mother Jean Case and his siblings Randy and Shelley Case, and Rob and Bobbi Case. The family will celebrate Ned's life in a memorial service at noon on Friday, April 20th at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, officiated by the Reverend Dr. Tony Sundermeier, with a reception following in Fifield Hall. i have been mourning and celebrating Ned since hearing of his passing last week. I had the immense privilege of working with him while at my last employer in NY. He was truly one of the most kind, authentic and godly men I've ever worked with. I pray you, his family, will feel enfolded by God's love and emboldened to live out your faith as he did.

I didn't get to know Daniel well as a Hyde student but remember fondly the parent retreat I spent with Betty and Ned on Jekyll Island. Ned was a gracious gentleman devoted to family and principles. Betty, I'm terribly sorry about your loss. I think I met Ned only once, but from all I've heard about him and from the simple fact that he won your love, I have no doubt that he was a man of extraordinary decency, compassion, integrity, faith, and goodwill. Betty, your friendship has enriched the lives and aided the struggles of numerous people over the decades, certainly including me and our once tight squad of derelicts at Westminster. Know that all of us are thinking of you, and that we would treasure the chance to do anything at all to lighten your burden. You have our love and our prayers that your sense of loss has begun its too slow march toward a celebration of his wonderful life.

I am heartbroken to hear this news. Although I haven't seen Ned in ages I remember well his kindness when we worked together at Booz Allen and Hamilton. He had a dear, dear heart. Sending all of my love to Betty and the family.

Ned was of the finest men I have ever known. Although we lost track of each other over the years I will regret his his passing for the rest of my life. God bless Ned, his wife Betty and the rest of his family.

I had the pleasure of working with Ned at GMT Capital. He was a wonderful person and I'm saddened to hear of his passing. I have such fond memories of Ned - he always made me laugh at work but especially during his speeches at our company gatherings. He was one of a kind and will truly be missed. My deepest condolences go out to Betty and Ned's family.
