Wm. Chitty Obituary

Chitty
Nathan Chitty, 49, passed away Friday March 12 while on a snow skiing vacation in Colorado. Nathan was born on Guam to William and Kathleen Chitty. He moved to Jacksonville as an infant, where he lived most of his life. He developed a love of winter sports while living in Colorado for a few years as a child and afterwards making annual trips to the Denver area.
He graduated from Stanton College Preparatory School in Jacksonville and attended Florida State University, remaining an avid Seminole fan the rest of his life. An early interest and college courses in different programming languages led to his career in computer programming, development and software architecture. Nathan worked for Nelnet Inc., a financial services company, where he designed complex programs handling billions of dollars and communicating with a wide array of diverse connected education systems, government, and financial institutions. His attention to detail and gentle mentoring of subordinates earned him a reputation of rarely making mistakes and being a most effective teacher. Nathan was one of those lucky people who truly loved what he did for a living and had a burning need to do it better than anyone else.
Nathan enthusiastically pursued a wide range of interests including scuba diving, golf, snow skiing, cooking, skateboarding, boating and water sports such as slalom skiing, wakeboarding and knee boarding. An Eagle Scout himself, he was a tireless assistant Scoutmaster while his son Nicholas was involved in Scouting, mentoring numerous other young men in addition to Nicholas, to their Eagle rank. Nathan had an uncommonly large number of friends, gathered over the years from family, work, college and his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, neighbors, and Scouting.
He is survived by his son Nicholas, his parents Kathleen, Edwina, and Bill Chitty, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Nathan was close to all of them and well known as the sentimental one in the family. His celebration of life will be held at 11AM on April 10th at Victory Lake, a place he always went to find mental serenity. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jacksonville Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

I had the good fortune to work with Nathan and experience his gifts and ability to solve any problem. Never one to shy from a challenge, the harder something was, the more he wanted to conquer it. I also had the pleasure of witnessing his transformation from single-life to being a totally dedicated father, completely enamoured with his son. His wry smile tried to convey he took nothing seriously but, in reality, he took everything to heart. Thank you, Nathan, for the lessons on living life to the fullest while still remembering what is most important.

Never saw a problem that this man couldn’t solve. Brilliant, driven and dedicated in work, family and friendships. Knowing he has raised a son of equal capabilities is just another testament to Nathan’s abilities. Miss you, Nathan.

I have many fond memories of Nathan over the years from Estates Cove Rd to Spring Lake to his home in Jacksonville and the many days at George’s Lake. Like everyone I was shocked to this news. My sincere sympathy to his many family members and friends. This earthy world has lost a fine young man and he will be missed by many—Uncle Bubby

Nathan was a kind and patient friend. I will miss the emoji conversations we used to have in those late meetings (his favorite was a laughing devil). He had a way of making those late nights at work fun. He inspired me to try harder and to be nicer and I’ll never forget that. He will live on in many of our hearts.

Nathan will be missed. My son (his cousin) and Nathan played often as preschoolers. All his family were very proud of his accomplishments and the life he led. My sympathies especially to Kathy, Bill, and Edwina. May God sooth your breaking hearts. May God bring Nathan's soul home for eternal rest.

My heart goes out to everyone who knew Nathan, his family most of all. He was an amazing man, and an excellent mentor. I'll never forget his dry sense of humor and sarcasm. You'll be missed by many professor Nathan.

I am so lucky to have been able to work with Nathan. He was an excellent teacher that loved to "talk shop". I only got to work with him for a short time but he was always ready to help me out or give me advice about work or my career, while joking around in the process. He was truly a role model, a mentor, and friend. I miss him, and my thoughts and prayers are with his family, and all those who he has impacted.

My thoughts and prayers go to the Chitty family. Nathan was an awesome guy, I loved working with him and even in the toughest of times he would find someway to still have fun and make his teammates laugh. He was a brilliant man, an awesome teacher and mentor to others, and a great friend.
