Michael Kohlmeyer Obituary

Mike Kohlmeyer

Mike Kohlmeyer, Sioux Falls, SD, died May 3, 2015, at Dougherty Hospice, Sioux Falls. He was 50.

Michael Allen Kohlmeyer was born November 16, 1964, in Sioux Falls, SD, to John and Donna (Kruger) Kohlmeyer. He attended Sioux Falls public schools, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1983. He then attended Concordia at St. Paul, earning a Batchellor of Science degree in 1987. Returning to Sioux Falls, Mike worked for his father at Midtown Storage, the family business. A few years later, he began his career with Citibank. Working as a customer service representative, Mike retired four years ago due to poor health.

From the time he was a young boy, Mike played football and baseball. As he grew older, he became involved in organized sports and played football and baseball at Concordia. Mike was also an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Mike suffered many physical ailments from the time he was a young boy. Never one to complain, he was the eternal optimist even during his most severe health problems. Blessed with a strong sense of humor and an infectious smile, he focus was always on the care of others. He loved joking with his friends and family members. A champion brother, son, and uncle, he always remembered birthdays and special events. His personal concern and good hearted nature will be forever cherished.

Grateful for having shared his life are his mother, Donna Kohlmeyer, Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Kevin Kohlmeyer (Roxanne Wolfgang), Sioux Falls, SD; sisters, Diane Nelson (Bob), Sioux Falls, SD, Karen Boehrns (Jack Roemeling), Sioux Falls, SD; and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Kermit; brother-in-law, Lonny; sister-in-law, Shirley; and nephews, Luke and Levon.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00pm Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation begins at noon, Tuesday, with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 Tuesday evening at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue.

I am sorry to receive news of Mike's passing...
I have many memories from my childhood on East Fifth, almost all of which include Mike (and Kevin too). He was a good friend and I regret that I lost contact with him. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Kohlmeyer family.
