Howard E. Mize

Howard E. Mize, 86, died Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North Mississippi in Oxford. Funeral services are 10 a.m. today at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville with burial in the St. Peters Cemetery in oxford.

Mr. Mize was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. he was a former partner of the Batesville newspaper "The Panolian". He was also a retired merchant and former owner of Mize Hardware. He was a contributing member of the Mississippi Archaeology Society, a member of the Memphis Amateur Retriever Club, and former board member of the Batesville Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include: brother, Bob Mize of Natchez; two nieces, Debra Mize Matthews of Vancleave and Donna Mize Stampley of Natchez; eight nephews, David Mize of Natchez, Duane Mize of Natchez, Martin Garner of Blue Springs, John Garner of Germantown, Tenn., Howard Garner of Tupelo, William Garner of Oxford, Paul Garner of Woodland, and Andrew Garner of Batesville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Garner Mize.
