Velma Mize

Mrs. Velma Faye Robinson Mize, age 91, of Tallapoosa, GA received her ultimate healing on February 20, 2026. She was born June 28, 1934 in the Buncombe community to the late Albert M. Robinson and Effie Wood Robinson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Durward Mize; son and daughter in law, Darien and Angela Mize; and son in law, Donald Monroe.

Velma graduated from Buncombe High School in 1950 and shortly after married her husband, Durward. Together, they built a wonderful life centered on love, family, and shared purpose. For more than 20 years, they proudly owned and operated two Tallapoosa businesses, Fashion Cove and Denim Duds.

Velma was a faithful member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and an active participant in the Red Hatters Club. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a cherished friend to many.

Velma is survived by her daughter, Darlis Monroe, of Buchanan, GA; grandchildren and their spouses, Donnie and Jennifer Monroe, Debbie and Dale Byrd, Joshua and Kristi Mize, Caleb Mize, and Nathaniel and Victoria Mize; and great grandchildren, Ian Byrd, Alec Byrd, and Sadie Mize.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 23, 2026 at 2:00PM in the Miller Funeral Home Dogwood Chapel with Rev. Kevin McAdams officiating. Eulogies will be given by Debbie Byrd and Donnie Monroe. Music will be provided by Debbie and Dale Byrd. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be Donnie Monroe, Ian Byrd, Joshua Mize, and Charles Sanders. The ladies of the Red Hatters Club will serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Dale Byrd officiating.

The family will receive friends in the Dogwood Chapel on Monday from 12:00 to 2:00PM.
