Vernita Christina (Wehmer) Kirsch

Evansville, Ind.

Vernita Christina (Wehmer) Kirsch, 95, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Hamilton Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Vernita was born in Evansville, Indiana on June 12, 1921 to the late Hermann and Anna M. (Bockelman) Wehmer. She was a 1939 graduate of Reitz High School. Vernita worked at the Chrysler Corporation, Deaconess Hospital, the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, including Cedar Hall, Lodge and Vogel School. Vernita was past president of Evansville Association of Education Secretaries. Vernita also worked at the St. Marys Hospitality House, and was the church secretary at Zion UCC until 1994 where she served as chairman of board of church and ministries. She was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. Vernita's love for family and her faith was first and foremost in her life. She enjoyed reading romance novels, gardening, working crossword puzzles, attending orchestra and band concerts and listening to classical and spiritual music.

Vernita is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ann Sprinkle (Richard) of Evansville, IN; son, Ronald H. Kirsch (Glenna) of Evansville, IN; sister, Martha Jane Hammond of St. Louis, MO; double cousin, Esther Jank of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Jeff Sprinkle (Lisa), Craig Sprinkle, Kimberley Wilder, Kevin Kirsch (Kari), Ryan Berger (Erin), Wendy Hemingway (Shane); great grandchildren, Daniel, David, Kailyn and Alyssa Sprinkle, Jailyn and Jerzi Wilder, Drew and Cara Berger, Jakob and Alexandra Hemingway, Faith and Isaiah Kirsch. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Vernita was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Henrietta Zurstadt (Fritz); brothers, Chris Wehmer (Milta), Henry Wehmer (Jean); and a brother-in-law, Harry Hammond.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Concordia Lutheran Church, 2451 Stringtown Rd., Evansville, IN 47711 with Pastor David Wiist officiating. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Browning Funeral Home and again from 9:00 AM until service time on Tuesday at Concordia Lutheran Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Church or Evansville Lutheran School, 111 E. Virginia St., Evansville, IN 47711.

Ron & other members of Vernita's family, so sorry to read of passing of mother, grandmother today. She led a long, fulfilled life and now has gained her Wings. It is my pray that upyou find comfort in the many fun filled memories of times together. May God hold you close to give you understanding.
