David Ellenbogen Obituary

David Ellenbogen, 76, of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away surrounded by his loving family at AdventHealth Care Apopka North on January 3, 2022, after a courageous seven-month battle with brain cancer. He was born on March 27, 1945, in Albany, NY. He graduated from Albany High School in Albany, NY in 1963 and from SUNY New Paltz with a Bachelor of Science in History in 1968. He also attended SUNY Albany. After getting married in 1966, he and his wife Jean enjoyed a myriad of life's challenges and experiences raising their four children. He would move from Poughkeepsie, NY to Irvine, CA in 1977 to follow his passion for the sun and the coast. In 1984, he moved his family back east and settled in Guilderland because nothing was more important to being near his extended family. He was a successful business owner who believed in paying his employees not only a fair wage, but a better than average wage. In fact, David was a serial entrepreneur who loved the challenge of building and marketing businesses. His entrepreneurial ventures began in 1968 when he started Ellenbogen Automation Systems with his brother Hank, and he would continue working on his businesses until his final days, the last of which is his "Universal Peace". He relished consulting with others in their businesses and even wrote the software for his brother Bob's businesses. He was known for his sense of humor and just loved people. But most importantly, David was exceptionally committed to his family. Any time they called, he made time for them no matter how busy he was. He always tried to be at any of his children's activities. His greatest joy was to spend time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, and was never happier than when all of his family members were together at the same time. He was extremely close to all of his siblings and also maintained a strong, loving and caring relationship with many of his friends from various points in his life. Whenever his family had a problem, they needed a solution to, they would come to him. For nearly seven years, he was the caretaker for his late wife through her battle with breast cancer. David is predeceased by his loving wife of almost 40 years, Jean Ellenbogen of Guilderland, NY. He was the beloved father of Jason Scot (Kathy) Ellenbogen of Clifton Park, NY, Adam Seth (Gina) Ellenbogen of Malta, NY, Lisa Beth (Charles) Schopf of Fernandina Beach, FL, and Jodi Lyn (Alan) Rosen of Minneola, FL. He was the son of the late Bernard and Mary Ellenbogen. He is also survived by his siblings, Henry (Alice) Ellenbogen of Kingston, NY, Norman (Ruthie) Ellenbogen of Manchester, VT, Wendy (David) Kay Bates of Albany, NY and Bob (Ruth) Ellenbogen of Albany, NY; as well as his brothers and sisters-in-law, Pat and Tom Bates and Bob and Liz Rombach, both of Lawrence, KS. He was the son-in-law of the late Oliver and Blanch Rombach. David was the proud grandfather of Jacob, Emily, and Tyler Ellenbogen, Adam Grego and Kyle Ellenbogen, Erin and Olivia Schopf, and Ariella and Michael Rosen. He was also a dear uncle to numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces. He also leaves behind his girlfriend of 15 years, Crystal Bernard and her children, Miles, Madison, Maverick, and Colette. He was loved by a countless number of close friends. Services and interment at Ohav Shalom Cemetery, 507 Church Rd, Albany, NY on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 1 p.m. It will be broadcast via Zoom for those uncomfortable with attending in person. https://youtu.be/GZ3vQqBstD4. Shiva will be observed online. Those wishing to honor David's memory may do so by sending contributions to the American Cancer Society or, better yet, living by "The Golden Rule" of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you (something which David was passionate about). Bringing Universal Peace was the one thing left on his "bucket list". To leave a condolence message for the family, please visit levinememorialchapel.com.
