Eric Hahn Obituary
Eric was born on July 3, 1995, in Charlottesville, Va. He attended Albemarle County Public schools and was a student in the MESA (Math, Engineering Science Academy) curriculum at Albemarle High School. He was selected for the Northrop Grumman WORTHY Engineering Program and was a member of F.I.R.S.T Robotics Team 619. He continued his education by pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. While in school, he was employed as a software engineer for Torc Robotics, a company focused on self-driving technology.
Eric dedicated his life to saving others. He was a volunteer for the Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad as a technical rescue member and an Advanced EMT. In his spare time, Eric enjoyed caving and scuba diving. He was the Vice President of the National Speleological Society's VPI Cave Club and a member of the Scuba Club of Virginia Tech.
Eric is survived by his parents, Linda and Gordon; siblings, Alexander, Dylan, and Heidi; grandparents, Elbert Dale and Erika Hahn; uncles, Kelvin Dale (Davey) and Mike (Suzanne), Ingold, Simeon (Loretta), and Nick (Sara) Hahn; and extended family in the U.S. and Australia, Germany, and Switzerland. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Dr. Walter Hahn, and his maternal grandmother, Irene Dale.
Two "Celebration of Life" memorials are planned, Sunday, October 30, 2022, at 1 p.m. at The Maroon Door, 418 N Main St., Blacksburg, VA 24060, and Sunday, November 6, 2022, 11 a.m. at The Center at Belvedere, 540 Belvedere Blvd., Charlottesville, VA 22901.

I vividly recall the day Eric showed up at my Monte Piccolo front door quite excited about a virtual reality head set he had just received. We played with it all afternoon. He was part of a team of three brilliant engineers that spent a summer in my medical robotics laboratory.

We are so very sorry about Eric´s death! Eric was a brilliant young man! When Eric was in high school he helped me with my computer and I was so impressed how smart Eric was! I was thinking at that time this guy is going places. Yes, Eric is going down in history as going places no one has ever gone. We are left behind with wonderful memories. Eric was a friend of our daughter´s; they met at VTech. Eric took our family into a cave on one of our visits. He was a great teacher, a gentle leader (I was pretty scared) and a genuinely kind person. Our hearts break for your loss but celebrate Eric´s life. He experienced more in his 27 years than most experience in their lifetime. Let us appreciate the wonders of our world as Eric did. God bless him and those who grieve his loss!
