Sharon Ann Rosenberg Schellenbach
May 27, 1940 - January 3, 2022
Sharon Ann Rosenberg Schellenbach, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 3, 2022, with her family by her side. The daughter of Ezra and Alice Posner, Sharon was born in Glendale, California, on May 27, 1940. She grew up in Los Angeles and lived there for most of her life. After graduating from Hollywood High School in 1958, Sharon started college at UC Berkeley. She later finished her degree at UCLA, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English.
Sharon married James H. Rosenberg in 1959, and they had two children together before divorcing in 1969. Sharon then began a challenging 25-year career as a social worker with Child Protective Services in Los Angeles County. As a single working mother, Sharon treasured being part of a community of friends and colleagues that supported one another.
Sharon met John Schellenbach in 1988, and they were married from 1989 to 2005. During that time, they lived a life filled with music, family, friendships, and pets. A love for animals was a constant throughout Sharon's life, and she had a total of twenty pets over the years. Sharon relocated to Charlottesville, Virginia in 2005, where she enjoyed living close to her daughter, son-in-law, and two of her grandchildren. While in Charlottesville, she devoted her time to volunteering and helping others - pursuits she valued for her entire life.
A lifelong pianist, Sharon had an immense love of music that she instilled in her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed going to concerts, especially at the Hollywood Bowl, and one of her fondest memories was going to see Nat King Cole with her father when she was sixteen. She delighted in the natural beauty that surrounded her in California, from the ocean and the flowers to the canyons and the mountains. Sharon loved traveling and took exciting trips to Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, Greece, Turkey, Norway, and France. Additional adventures included sailing, hot air ballooning, parasailing, and reluctantly riding roller coasters with her son, Jamie.
Sharon is survived by her daughter, Janet Moore (Garrett); son, Jamie Rosenberg (Carole); sister, Audrey Eisenberg; nephew, Jerome Eisenberg (Jacki); grandson, Garrett Moore Jr.; granddaughter, Allison Moore; granddaughter, Devon Schellenbach; grandson, Rohan Schellenbach, and many lifelong friends.
She will forever be remembered for her big smile, sense of style, love of animals, and kind heart. Her family and friends meant the world to her, and she meant the world to all of us. She will be so missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Charlottesville Albemarle Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (
