Charles Caleb Shera

SHERA Charles Caleb Shera, 79, of Columbus, died Friday, March 19, 2010 with his family by his side. Preceded in death by his lovely wife Winifred Shera. Survived by his 6 children, Nancy (Harold) Bray, Robert Shera, Phillip (Yolanda) Shera, Lisa (Mark) Dyer, Susan (Troy) Pfeffer, and Timothy (Gina) Shera; 12 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. After completing his undergrad at Miami University, Charles went on to achieve a PhD before making extravagant strides as a physical chemist for Chemical Abstracts Services for more than 25 years. An avid supporter of The Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Charles helped initiate Picnic with the Pops honoring his late wife, of 52 years, who was the symphony's longest standing member. Among his accomplishments he was a certified private pilot with an unofficial world record for greatest number of take offs and landings in one day, with his son. His love for the Hawaiian Islands was a special treasure that he shared with his entire family. Charles will be remembered for his wisdom, advice, and enduring love for his family. Funeral Service will be 12 noon on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street, Worthington, with Don Will officiating.
