Christopher William Powell

Powell Christopher William Powell, age 84, died peacefully at home on July 10, 2014. He was born on July 3, 2014 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Frank and Ann (Sullivan) Powell. Christopher was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Frank and his sister Ann. Christopher was married to Patricia Anne Bastian on June 21, 1952 in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated Bexley High School (1947) and The Ohio State University where he earned his BS degree in Marketing. He was in retail/business management for over 40 years. While attending OSU, Christopher began his career as a clerk at F&R Lazarus. He continued to achieve and advance to his final position as Vice President. The family then moved cross country to Woodside, California where Christopher joined Mervyns Corp as Vice President, later becoming President. The family eventually returned to Columbus where Christopher joined Franklin Chemicals and finished there as President. After a long and productive career in retail/business management he partially retired and joined Commercial One Realty where he worked until his death. Chris was on the board of trustees of Green Lawn Cemetery. In addition he enjoyed tennis, travel with friends and the New York Times crossword puzzle challenge. Christopher is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Patricia Anne; children, Deborah (Sean) O'Donnell, Leslie (Greg) Martin and Dianne Howard; grandchildren, Morgan Jones, Christina (Roey) Psisterer, William Taylor Howard, Patrick Howard and Charlotte Howard; great-grandchildren, Jackson Psisterer and Dylan Jones. There will be a private family graveside service and burial at Green Lawn Cemetery.
