Donald Leslie Shaffer Jr.

Donald L. Shaffer Jr., age 88, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Cherry Blossom Senior Living on Friday, December 12, 2025.

Donald (Don) was born on March 7, 1937, in Ironton, Ohio, to Donald and Katherine Shaffer. Don grew up in Central Ohio, graduating from Bexley High School in 1955.

He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from June 15, 1955, through October 24, 1958, where he specialized in air traffic control radar repair and received his training at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi.

He remained in the Air Force Reserves until June 1963, when he was honorably discharged.

He went on to work for the Newark Air Force Base, or "The Missile Base," home of the Aerospace Guidance and Metrology Center, from December 1957 through March 1993, when he retired. Dad calibrated and repaired the guidance systems for the Titan I and II, the Minuteman I, II, and III missile systems, and numerous other guidance systems used throughout the U.S. military.

He is survived by his children, Barbara, Christina, Donald (Kerry), Brett (Carol), Matthew, and Andrea (Rob Klenke); his sister, Jean Cook; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Twila Jean; father, Donald; mother, Katherine; brothers, Jim and Steve; and grandson, Collin.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 550 Hill Rd N, Pickerington, OH 43147, followed by a service at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Glen Rest Memorial Cemetery, 8029 E Main St, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068.
