Dear Holly,

I just learned about Dan's passing. I'm so sad. He was a wonderful man and an excellent teacher and scholar. Plus he was a very funny, kind and talented person that made the Department of English at OSU a wonderful place to be a graduate student. I will really always remember him for the great person he was.

I just learned of Dan's passing today. This is very sad news for me. I remember listening to Dan play the piano at the Worthington Inn, when he worked with the violinist Linda Senter. He was a wonderful guy who was exceptionally bright and had a great sense of humor.

My sincere condolences to Holly. I'll never forget the song he wrote for her.

To Holly, especially, amongst all who loved Dan: Since learning lately of his passing, I think of how much joy I experienced in his presence through his jokes, his storytelling and his music. I will always remember the gift of his piano-playing at my wedding reception. It's been years since I've seen him, yet memories of him (and you) are fresh, and filled with gratitude. Holly, may you be well. May you have all that you need as your journey continues.

Holly, My sympathy to you in your loss. Dan was a great guy, I loved the evenings at King Charley's in Roscoe Village. His piano music was awesome and he would always play my favorite "The Rose". He will be missed and remembered by many. I will forever cherish the CD's I have and listen with many musical memories.

I will never forget his talks and ability to incite discussion in his American Literature class. I still use his approach to Huck Finn, Walden, and The Blithesdale Romance, in my classes. He was a terrific teacher.

April 6, 2016

We will never forget his humor, grace and courage in his suffering. He played at my mother's funeral, played at our home on the hill. Gave us great joy. Rose Sebouhian
I was his oldest student and he was my youngest professor at Ohio State. We both laughed at each other about the differences in our ages. But we both accepted who we were and I found in him brillance of language and thought and his ability to laugh at himself. George Sebouhian

Dan was my dissertation advisor and the best man at my wedding. A penetrating mind in his own right, he was humane in the way that he encouraged his students to challenge orthodoxy and develop as scholars. He was not just a critic but an educator, one who knew how to "draw you out" on a topic. He will be missed and remembered always.

April 5, 2016

The Colopy, Durbin and Carpenter families will always remember Dan and the wonderful stories and music he shared. His beautiful music will go on and on. Love to you and yours Holly and family.

Dan's gentle, kind soul came right through his fingers, onto the piano and into the music. He brought me much joy through music, through conversations about literature and real-life stories, and through much belly-cramping laughter. I'm grateful more than I can say that I got to know and work with him.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we send our condolences. Dan was THE master of the piano and we loved having him here every Friday to play in our dining room. There is a void that no one will ever replace here at Raven's Glenn! RIP Dan, you will forever be missed.

I knew Dan from the days he played piano at King Charley's in Roscoe Village and I was a server. People came every weekend to hear him play. We all loved Dan and I'll never forget our conversations and bringing him St. Paulies Girl at the piano. He was a wonderful person and he'll be missed dearly.
