Douglas Martin Obituary

MARTIN Douglas Allen Martin, 64, of Westerville, passed away Sunday, July 15, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born June 7, 1948 in Harveysburg, Ohio, and raised in Xenia, Doug was the eldest child of the late Auzwood Martin and Phyllis Routzon. He was preceded in death by his brother Eric Martin and stepson Justin Marquart. Doug is survived by his wife, Sue; cherished daughter, Alison; sister Tammy (Bruce) Dawson of Dayton; nieces Hope and Kalyn; nephew, Dylan Dawson; numerous loving in-laws and their children; scores of "extended family", neighbors, and friends; and the "dog" Oreo. Doug graduated from Ohio State University in 1980 with a Fine Arts degree in photography. He worked as a photographer for The Ohio State University Communications Department and then freelanced as a photographer for 25 years. He loved music and recently developed an avid interest in cooking. Doug was a dedicated husband, father, and friend. We all will miss his love, sense of humor, and adventurous spirit. Visitation Thursday, July 19, 6-8 p.m. at SHAW-DAVIS FUNERAL HOME, 4341 N. High St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to OSU Relay For Life, relayforlife.org/OSU in Doug's memory.

My sincerest sympathies to you and your Daughter Sue. Doug's friendship with me began in 1970 when we shared a room in our group house off campus. Since that time, I have and will carry the memory of Doug's smile and positive attitude that made me a better man for knowing Doug.

Tammy Dawson & Family,

I hope this finds you well, and I hope you are holding up after your recent loss. Even tho I didn't know your brother, I know how much his loss has brought sadness and pain in this time. I know that it is going to be hard to imagine life without him, but I pray that your faith and inner strength will help you through this difficult time. Hopefully the memories of great times you had will help you in this time. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Respectfully,

Sue,

I am so sorry to hear of Doug's passing. I know I lost touch with the two of you after my divorce, but have continued to think of you both over the years. You and Doug were such great friends to David and I, and I will always remember Doug's warmth and humor. I wish you all the best.

Sue and Allison,

I am so very sorry to hear about our loss of Doug. And, I'm sorry that I can't be there for you as I am out of town until the end of the month.

I was just telling Rick Kocks that he and Doug were my two "Go To" guys for photography assignments when I was at Columbus Monthly. From feature illustration, environmental portraits and sports to interiors, nightlife and party shots, Doug was great at capturing all of them.

Years later, Doug, Rick and I would occasionally go out to lunch together and share a great time and many laughs. Doug was so diversely talented, dependable and kind. I will miss him greatly. But, I will also carry with me a loving memory of him forever. My sympathy and love to both of you.
