Earl Schnitz Obituary

SCHNITZ Earl Jay Schnitz, 83, passed away at home with his family by his side on October 14, 2009. He bravely and stubbornly fought pancreatic cancer for nine years. Born February 10, 1926 to Rose (Fein) and Phillip Schnitz in Milwaukee, Wis. He worked for the Humphrey Chevrolet organization in Milwaukee from 1957 until he acquired his own Oldsmobile dealership in 1966 in Columbus, Oh. He retired in the valley in 1995 after 30 successful years in the auto industry. He was affectionately referred to as "Baba" by his family and close friends. He was a decorated WWII combat veteran. He proudly achieved 32nd degree Mason in the Shriner's organization and was an avid supporter of the children's burn units around the country. His career made him an automobile enthusiast. He loved to drive. He was a tennis fan. He loved to play the game, and he loved to watch professionals play the game. He was a volunteer for PANCAN, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, and the Oncology Ward at the Mayo Clinic Hospital of Scottsdale. He also was a supporter of the Make-a-Wish Foundation. He always had a soft spot for terminally ill children. Most of all, he loved to laugh. He was never without a joke and a smile, and was always looking forward to his next good meal. He was a loving husband and father, doting grandfather, and loyal friend. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Rachel; his son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Susan of Columbus, Oh.; his daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Edward of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and five grandchildren, Stephanie, Jason, Robert, Samantha, and Jake. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to PANCAN, Hospice of the Valley, or any Shriner's Hospital. Memorial Service to be held at the home of Howard and Sue Schnitz, 330 S. Stanwood Rd. on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 2 p.m.

What I am feeling right now is hard to put into words. Earl was a very sweet man, who was always smiling, had a kind and funny word and adored his family. I am so sorry for your loss.
