1942 - 2020
Ivan "Jerry" Forbis, age 78, of Columbus, OH, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. Preceded in death by daughter Michelle Forbis and parents Ivan and Hazel Forbis. Survived by sons, Shane (Irene), Scott, and Sam Forbis; grandchildren, Victoria, Veronica, Marley, Anthony, and Sadie; siblings, Cheryl (Donald) Leslein and Marylee (Chuck) Bendig; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins that were very fond of him. Ivan was a proud graduate of South High School in 1961. Upon graduation, Ivan volunteered to serve in the United States Marine Corps, receiving numerous medals and decorations, including for deployment at Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and for multiple combat tours in Vietnam, earning an honorable discharge as a Sergeant. He was the Union president at Tropicana during his employment and worked tirelessly for the benefit of his membership. Ivan continued to be an advocate for all veterans until his final days and would never be seen without his favorite 'Vietnam Veteran' hat. Ivan enjoyed spending time with his many friends and family, particularly time spent in Florida and the family farm in West Virginia. Ivan was known for his quick wit and was a friend to everyone he met. A celebration of life will take place at a later date and future arrangements will be made by O.R. WOODYARD SOUTH CHAPEL.
