John Stubbins Obituary

STUBBINS John Kenneth Stubbins, passed away peacefully from this life at the age of 86 on September 7, 2010. He was born January 5, 1924. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Lavonne, parents Robert and Nettie Stubbins, brother Robert, sisters Kathryn Parker and Jo Ann Keadey. Survived by children, Diane Stubbins, John Michael Stubbins (Adrienne), and Timothy Stubbins (Lynette); grandchildren, John Jr., Bradley, Joshua (Marcie Cornfield), Seth, Gavin, and Grant Stubbins; great-grandchildren, Paige Stubbins, Amelia and Jacob Cornfield Stubbins; nieces and many friends who knew John as "Stubby". He retired from the Navy as a Master Chief Petty Officer after serving his country faithfully from 1942 - 1966. He served during WWII. He worked at North American Rockwell until they closed. He then worked at WOSU and OSU College of Dentistry. He was an ELK and a Mason. As a younger man, he and wife Lavonne were members of South United Methodist Church; later at Good Shepherd Community Church. John was an avid golfer and a big Buckeye fan. He was always an active supporter to his family. When thanked for anything he would always say, "No, thank God," and he would always promise us, "MWCL" (More Will Come Later). He coached several baseball and basketball teams, was a Hamilton Township Booster, and served as a Boy Scout leader for his sons. He was a proud, encouraging, and involved grandpa to his grandsons. He was a wonderful father and the best father-in-law two girls could ever pray for. Visitation Friday 4-8 p.m. at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. Diane, Terry and I have you and your family in our prayers. We've both been through this and know the difficulty with losing the "last" parent. This is when WE become the older generation in our families. We know God will see each of you through this sad time in your lives. Terry and Sue Minch, Portsmouth

Paige, Not many people get to know a Great Grandfather. You were blessed. Just know we care about you and pray for the best. To honor one such as Mr. Stubbins is to live a life worthy of his respect in your words, deeds, friendships, education, vocation and in ways you spend your spare time. Invest in other people.

Mike, Adrienne & Sons (John Michael, Bradley, Seth, Gavin and Grant):
We spent one day with Mr. Stubbins at a Thanksiving dinner at your home. His love for family and the Buckeyes were evident in the many thoughts he shared with us that day. You will miss him, but you don't have to get over him. He is only away for a time and ever available for remembering. We love you guys and pray for you and the extended family.

The Frost family wants all of you to know we are thinking of you all. John was such a great man. He and Jim were friends on the golf course and HTHS football game. John was a great coach to Mike and encouraged him with his baseball. I remember how he and I worked as officers and getting the HTHS Athletic Boosters going. And Shari remembers her classmates TIm and Lanette. What a great family. John always had a big smile for you when ever you saw him. God Bless him and all of you kids.
