Maria "Terry" Kochensparger was born Sept 26, 1934 to James and Helen Skufis in Columbus, Ohio. Terry graduated from Columbus South H.S. as a junior in the class of 1951. She married Richard "Bud" Kochensparger on Sept. 11, 1951. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Lynda and grandson Alex Kokenzie. She passed away late Monday Evening, February 15, 2021 at her home on Buckeye Lake. She is survived by Bud; and daughters, Cheryl Furtaw, Kimberly (Jim) Cooper and Kelly Kokenzie. After Bud and Terry left their navy life, they settled in Grove City. She became the first full-time city council clerk for Grove City. After 10 yrs. she left to become the office manager for Coburn Morgan, world renown Restaurant designer. She then went on to the Ohio Statehouse to work for Rep. Wayne Hayes. After his passing she moved to the Senate to work for Sen Gene Branstool. While working for Sen. Branstool, he was able to get sewers for the eastern part of Buckeye Lake, where Bud and Terry moved to in 1978. She served more than 12 yrs. as Secretary for the Buckeye Lake Civic Association. Terry owned two businesses: in Grove City she owned the Aegean Port Gift shop and later the Little Pizza House in Fairfield Beach. Terry is also survived by her three sisters, Joan Phillips, Stacy (Chris) Kourlas and Katina Salamanas; brother-in-law, Jim Kochensparger and sister-in-law, Alma Kochensparger. Her nine grandchildren, Jason and Graham Erb, Justin and Tyler Sexton, Leia, Paige and David Stough, Adam and Evan Kokenzie; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Terry was a bridge lover. Many years playing every Monday at AMVETS in Thornport and every Wednesday in Venice, Fla also for many years. She also loved playing bingo at the Venice Moose where she was a member. She was a very strong believer in her lord, Jesus Christ and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Thornville. Family will receive friends on Friday, February 19, 2021 from 6-8pm at the Thornville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, 56 South Main St. in Thornville and again on Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 10am until time of funeral services at 11am. Burial will follow in the Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville. Due to COVID 19, please wear masks at all times while in the funeral home, and practice social distancing.
