I had the pleasure of working with Dr.G for over 2 years at the Human Patient Simulation Center at UF(2005-2008). Dr.G was an incredible man with a heart of gold! I remember when someone tried to break into my house once and how concerned he was and invited my roommate and I to come stay with him and his wife. That's the type of person he was. Always a smile, always a joke, a wonderful sense of humor and so smart and passionate about his work. I heard the news today and I was devastated. I wish I had a chance to have said goodbye. I will miss him greatly, but I am so thankful to have known him! My sincere condolences go out to his entire family! May God be with you in your time of need!

Dear Nik, Didi and the entire family,
I had the pleasure of working with your dad on many occasions and he never failed to teach me something every time. While doing ECT's one day, he taught me to tilt the head to maintain the airway and simultaneously feel for the facial artery pulse under the jaw with my pinkie finger. Before applying the ECT charge, he was told he could get shocked if he didn't let go of the jaw. He paused with "that smile" and said, "Yes, but I always feel so much happier afterwards." He was a great teacher and an example for anyone who was lucky enough to work with him.

Nik and family members: Nik - our friendship goes back to Pharmacology in 1974 when you were a lab tech. Although we have never really kept in contact, I just happened to be in Gainesville this weekend and saw the paper regarding your father. Please accept my sincere condolences in the loss of your father. May God in his loving way guide your family through these sad times and rejoice in the wonderful memories you have. Dawn

To The Family of Nik (J.S.) Gravenstein.
My deepest sympathy. For many of us, who were privileged to know him both in Gainesville and abroad (and there was never a distance in communications with him), he was a life long role model and mentor to steer our professional thinking in medicine.

Nik, since 1985 , I have know your dad and recall a time that we were showing you and Dave our new 3700 pulse oximeter with a pre pilot model with a difficult to view screen . In a clever and very humerous manner he viewed the monitor and with a smile that a professional commedian would appreciate , made his funny comment then left the room with perfect timing .
Nik , you and your family are very fortunate to have such a man as your father for such a long time .
Your friend , Bill Stewart

You have touched the lives of millions through your work and contributions to the world of anesthesiology. For one's contributions to benefit so many is a true blessing. Your work will touch the lives of people when they are in need, and will bring them comfort. The world is grateful for the knowledge you have given us, and you will be missed.

I can't say that I ever have met someone who was more of a gentleman than Nik. You read about his history, it confirms what a remarkable man he was. I will miss his wisdom and most of all his keen sense of humor. Often you forget to tell certain people how much they mean to you, I am so thankful that I was able to tell Nik in person, and not too long ago in email how much I admired him. I am so glad I was able to know him.
