Janet Brunt Obituary

BRUNT
JANET WHEELER, a retired registered nurse and homemaker, died Tues. Sept. 14, 2004 at her Moorestown, NJ home of complications from minor strokes; she was 88. Mrs. Brunt was the second oldest of the five daughters of the late Harold J. Wheeler and his wife, Letitia Major Wheeler of Masonville, Mount Laurel, adjacent to Moorestown. She was born and raised on the Wheeler farmstead off Creek and Centerton Roads. Their farm was bordered by the Rancocas and Parkers Creeks. There, during the depression of the late 1930's, Mrs. Brunt grew up learning to milk a cow, churn the butter, cook on a woodstove and can fruits and vegetables. For recreation, she rode horseback, which she continued to do as an adult. Her father taught her and her sisters to swim in the Rancocas. As a teenager, while summering at Ocean Grove, NJ, she swam on the lifeguard swim team there. Mrs. Brunt and her husband of 64 years, Thomas Bayard Brunt, Jr. were classmates at Moorestown Friends School from which they were graduated in 1934. She went on to train at the Germantown School of Nursing in Phila. from which she was graduated in 1937. After working at Germantown Hospital as a surgical nurse, she went on to study nursing further at the New York-Cornell Medical Center and at the University of Pennsylvania. She became a skilled operating room nurse. She ended her RN career as a nurse in the Mount Holly offices of a surgical partnership. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Brunt is survived by 4 children, Thomas B. Brunt III (Kristine) of St. Thomas, V.I., Peter Wheeler Brunt (Wendy) of Jobstown, NJ, Caroline Janet Moriuchi (Fred) and Lydia Ann Myers (Barry) all of Moorestown. She is also survived by 3 sisters, Virginia Coe of Medford, Betty Shoemaker of Annapolis, MD and Mary Ann Grimes of Camden, TN; also surviving are 8 grandsons, 3 granddaughters and 4 great grand-children. Services will be held 11 AM Sat. Sept. 18, at the First Presbyterian Church, 125 Garden St., Mount Holly, NJ. Int. will be in the Friend's Green Lawn Cem., Moorestown. Friends may call Sat. from 10 to 11 A.M. at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated for the Moorestown Friends School, 110 East Main St., Moorestown, NJ 08057.
