To Rod's family, sorry to hear of your loss. I had the honor of working with Rod as a vendor, going back to the '90's, supplying our roller systems for their trailers built for FedEx. He was a great innovator, and with his help, established new processes for their production line work. Will certainly be missed but will always be fondly remembered.

Deepest sympathies to Rods Family. Though we haven't met in person for a number of years. Meeting him and conversing on how to make "these trailers better" has left an impact on me for life. He was a great man and left an influence in how I have acted in both my personal and professional life.
Very proud to have met him, know him and more importantly, shared that "we got this" smile. RIP

I've only knew Rodney for a few years, but I fully enjoyed that time as he had a way of taking his time and making me feel special. Rodney will be sadly missed, but am comforted by the laughs we shared, and the ability to strive to make him proud on a daily basis....

To Cindy, Carrie, Mark and the entire extended family,
It is so very hard to know what to write to properly honor the life, spirit, gifts and character that defined Rod's friendship to me of 45+ years. There are so many memories through those years. They range from putting a prototype "Anti-Skid" system on a Signal Dispatch trailer together in 1973 to that golf cart ride at the lake last September.
And, there are so many things Rod taught me. There were the business goals we shared and reached together. There were the testing innovations we pursued and the lab team we built together. There were lots of lighter moments I will always remember. One I will share: In early 1990 Rod shared our draft plan to start and outfit our engineering lab with Jerry on a long flight. (It was $500K+ as I recall.) When Rod got back, I asked how it went. Rod said he thought he was going to have to give Jerry CPR on the plane! But, two weeks later, "stuff" started and kept arriving!
As much as it was a privilege to work for Rod, it was a greater gift to be able to call Rod a friend. As all the previous entries reflect, it is clear that everyone knows we were in the company of a very special person.
So, with all the expected profound sadness in his passing, what a wonderful life he led here and what a Glorious Victory in His Name we have to celebrate.

I was saddened to hear of Rods passing. He was my friend and fellow alum from Purdue.
We met as a result of litigation where I represented Wabash National. His historical knowledge of Wabash, and its products, as well as his expertise as to its designs, many of which were his, is a major reason for the company prevailing in that litigation.
During that time, we became friends. I not only benefited from his engineering genius, but also his friendship.
His genius, leadership and friendship will be sorely missed. He was a great man and an outstanding example for us all. In many respects, he was Wabash National.
His designs revolutionized the industry and made Wabash the company it is today. Beyond that, his contributions enhanced the trucking industry which benefits our nation as a whole.
That is the person he was, a man whose contributions will stand the test of time.
In the end, those contributions are his legacy.

He, our founder and many of our veteran employees had a lot of experiences spent together back in the early days of Wabash.
The general theme amongst all was he was a great person who had great enthusiasm, open mindedness and positive attitude that he projected upon all of the people he encountered.
"He was truly a leader and will be missed."

Getting to know Rod was one of the great joys of my many years at Wabash. His kindness, creativity and most of all, his willingness to educate those ignorant of the subtleties of engineering were some of the qualities that made him such a special individual. Although it has been many years my memories of him scribbling an idea or an explanation on a napkin are still fresh. Thanks and Rest in Peace, friend.

Mark, The loss of a parent is the worst thing I have yet to experience in this life here on earth. My mom has been gone a little over 3 years and the pain doesn't go away it just changes with time. Remind yourself how lucky you were to have loved and been loved by a great man. I worked with your dad on a couple of brief projects and always considered it a real treat to have been in his presence. He has left a legacy of inventions, family, memories and joy that you shall all cherish the remainder of your life. Prayers to you and yours! Jamie Phillips

Mark
My prayers go to you and your family and i hope all of you can find some comfort in the legacy that Rod has left to all of us who had the good fortune to know and work with him. I can clearly picture now Rod frantically scribbling on a napkin a new design for a lighter yet stronger and much better set of Pearly Gates. All of our lives have been made better by knowing him.
My deepest sympathy,
Chris

Middy and I discovered that beyond and behind Rod's enormous technical and mechanical skills he personified beautiful spiritual traits. His traits best described in the scripture: Galatians 5:22: "But the fruit of God's Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, kindness, against there are no laws." His beautiful family, his faith community, and his fellow workers have made this discovery too. We all look forward to that blessed hope of the great family reunion in the heavens above.
Our discovery and one year friendship with Rod and Cindy was at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Mn. as we visited with his family during his courageous journey thru cancer treatments.

My sincere sympathy to all of Rod's immediate and extended family, and dear friends. I remember Rod well. It was some time prior to 1961, and I sat beside him in band at the former Francesville school. He was younger by several years and, even then, I thought of him as an amazing "kid," surely going somewhere and doing something outstanding. And he did. May God comfort you and give you grace as you grieve his loss.
