Bernell F. Grieger, 96, of La Crosse passed away Monday, March 24, 2025.
He was born Sept. 27, 1928, on the family farm in La Crosse to Fred and Johanna (Rosenbaum) Grieger, graduated from Wanatah High School in 1946 and served proudly with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Bernell was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Wanatah and the Wanatah American Legion Post 403. He made his career on the family farm where they became known for their asparagus and raspberry production. Bowling every Tuesday night at Wellman's in Valparaiso for more than 50 years provided some of the most legendary memories that could be hoped for. Always willing to help where needed, usually with a smile on his face, you could always count on Bernell to assist in making your project a success.
On June 16, 1956, he married Diane C. Koch, who preceded him in death in 2015. Survivors include their children, Kathy (Glenn) Wallace of Union Mills and Mark Grieger of Wanatah; grandchildren, Ben Wallace, Cassie Stachler, Zachary Grieger and Emily Grieger; and great-grandchildren, Brock, Brogan, Gavin, Natalie and Megan. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lundina Grieger; and his three brothers, Melvin, Robert and Don Grieger.
A visitation will be held Saturday, March 29, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Salem Church, Wanatah, with funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. and burial to follow at Salem Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Salem Church bell choir.
