Darlene Ann Mitchell nee Hazi, age 64, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021, in Indianapolis.
Darlene was born on April 27, 1957, in Gary, Indiana, to Louis E. and Bernice Marie (Felix) Hazi, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret "Marlo" Lauren Mitchell; sister, Denise (David) Musch; brother, Dennis (Andrea) Hazi; uncle, Carl Kiefer; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and two cats, Cindy and Audrey.
Darlene was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 37. She enjoyed pitching horseshoes, cooking, canning, tailgating at Notre Dame and watching her daughter play the ukulele at open mic nights. Darlene loved the Cubs, National Enquirer and watching Jeopardy and the Antiques Road Show with Marlo. She was a cheerleader at Holy Angels Cathedral School in Gary, went to Andrean High School class of 1975 and graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 1980 with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. She worked at Blue Chip Casino for 24 years as the casino floor supervisor in the Table Games Department. Darlene is now reunited with her grandma in heaven who called her "Sunshine."
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington Street, Michigan City, IN, 46360, with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. with Deacon Mike officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Independent Cat Society, 4061 S. County Line Road, Westville, IN, 46391.

Am so sorry to hear of Darlene“s passing. She was a year ahead of me in high school but always smiling and kind. RIP Darlene and prayers to her family.
