Thomas G. Howe, 74, of Trail Creek, Indiana, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at 4:30 a.m. in Franciscan Health Michigan City.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana, with Rev. Gregory Bim-Merle officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
He was born July 18, 1949, in Walldorf, Germany, to the late Thomas and Liesel (Kraus) Howe. On Aug. 5, 1978, in Michigan City, Indiana, he married Colleen Kingsley Howe, who survives in Trail Creek, Indiana.
Also surviving are two daughters, Maureen Henn of Citrus Springs, Florida, and Bonnie Bell of Michigan City, Indiana; son, Thomas C. Howe of Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren, Marie, Layla, Joseph, Aaron and Charley; two great-grandchildren, James and Lillianna; sister, Eva Kooney of Noblesville, Indiana; and two brothers, Richard Howe and Harry (Barb) Howe, both of Hayward, Wisconsin.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Glen-Ian Howe; and sister, Tina Hunt.
He retired after 23 years as a captain with the Michigan City Police Department and was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and a Vietnam veteran. Thomas also had worked for 20 years at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and was a part-time police officer for the town of Beverly Shores, Indiana. He was a 1989 graduate of Purdue University and a member of F.O.P. Dunes Lodge 75 and the American Legion John Franklin Miller Post 37 (past commander). Thomas enjoyed camping, cooking, gardening, motorcycle riding and growing orchids.

I am very sorry to read about Tom's passing. His mother, Liesel, was friends with my mom many years ago. I remember such a good, kind family and I hope you will find comfort in the memories and each other.
