Abigail Lutz

IOWA – Abigail Lauren Lutz, 24, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Groveland, Illinois, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
She was born on October 12, 2000, in Peoria, Illinois, to Rodney and Leslie (Young) Lutz.
Surviving are her parents, Rodney and Leslie Lutz of Groveland; two brothers, Mitchell of Groveland, CA, and Quinton of Chicago; her grandmother, Shirley Lutz of Bellflower, IL; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as her two beloved rescue cats, Stevie and Millie.
Abby was a 2019 graduate of Morton High School, where she was an Illinois State Scholar, a member of many clubs and played volleyball and ran track.
She was a 2023 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville majoring in Human Resources. While there, she served as vice-president for the business fraternity Alpha Kappa PSI.
Upon graduation, she was hired and worked for International Paper, originally in Shreveport, LA, and recently moved to Cedar Rapids, IA. Her goal was to be an advocate for the employee and present HR as the good guy.
Abby was proud of her long-term friendships, several dating back to kindergarten, and loved to travel across the country to visit those friends. One of her favorite activities was to just jump in her car and cruise around listening to her favorite music. She brought her special light and her unique laughter to every room she entered.
A funeral service will be held at Cornerstone Baptist Church Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 12 p.m., with Jonathan Chadbourn officiating. Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm Friday, September 12 at Cornerstone Baptist Church. Further visitation will be held Saturday from 11am to 11:45 a.m., prior to the service at noon. Burial will be at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton.
Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley or Project Celebration.com to support victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault.
