Adishwar Kumar Jain

It is with great sadness that we announce that our father, uncle and grandfather, Adishwar K Jain, better known as 'Nana', 'Mamaji', or simply 'Uncle', passed away the evening of September 15, 2023 at the age of 86 in Lake Forest, IL. He left for his heavenly abode in peace, surrounded by his four daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren at his bedside.
Adish was born on June 29, 1937 in Karnal, Haryana, India to Kishorilal and Kumarkali Jain. His life was defined by responsibility and a duty to family. At the age of seven years old, his father passed away and he became the proverbial 'Man of the House.' At the behest of his eldest sister, Adish attended Banaras Hindu University (now a member of the Indian Institutes of Technology) to study mechanical engineering. He then became the first in his family to move to the United States, moving with his late wife, Prabhat Jain, and four young daughters in 1970 to Mt. Lebanon, PA and Park Forest, IL, before eventually settling in Ann Arbor, MI in 1973. It was in Ann Arbor that he created a tight-knit community of friends and family, educating his four children while mentoring countless others.
In 2000, Adish retired from his career as an engineer at Bechtel and never looked back. He enjoyed spending time with his daughters, grandchildren, and extended family, traveling across the country (and world) to visit and help raise his network of extended family and friends. His famous 'Man-to-Man talks' were the product of a genuine interest in the well-being of those around him, and his advice has contributed to the success of hundreds of individuals in subsequent generations.
His legacy lives on in his four daughters, Mrs. Sangeeta Basilisco (Claudio) of Shelby Twp, MI; Mrs. Vibha Kaushal (Sunil) of Grand Blanc, MI; Dr. Monika McLain (John) of Vernon Hills, IL; Dr. Anshu Batra (Raj) of Beverly Hills, CA; eleven grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on September 17th, 2023 at 10:30am at Haben Funeral Home and Crematory in Skokie, IL.
