Alan Schroer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home - Oberlin on Jan. 6, 2026.
Alan Richard Schroer passed away in Oberlin, Kansas, on Saturday, January 4, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on March 20, 1946, in McCook, Nebraska, Alan's life was marked by his family, his dry sense of humor, the integrity in his profession, and his gentle spirit.
An accountant by vocation and by temperament, Alan practiced his craft throughout his life with care and precision. His career and curiosity took him far beyond his Kansas roots: from Wichita, Kansas, to Toronto, Canada; then to Santa Clara, California; before returning home to Oberlin in September 2025. Wherever he lived, Alan found familiar comfort in routine, good conversation, and a well-kept ledger.
Alan loved watching the San Francisco 49ers and followed the team faithfully through high and low seasons. In his younger years he enjoyed golf and bike riding, especially the simple freedom of an afternoon ride. At home, he cherished the quiet companionship of his little black cat, Charlie-who was known to make an appearance only when Alan was the sole person in the house.
Alan was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Erlene Schroer; by his second wife, Linda Schroer (September 23, 2023); and by his brother, Don (July 16, 2022). He is lovingly survived by his daughter: Desiree (husband Gord); siblings: Ron (wife Barb), Merlin, Brian (wife Linda), Karen (husband Brad), Elaine (husband John) and Ronda; grandchildren: Arden and Hayden; along with nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss his steady presence and dry humor.
