Millville
Alan Taylor Whittemore, 72, of Millville, MA, passed away peacefully on September 17th, 2025. He was the loving and devoted father of three incredible children -Adam and his wife Rebecca, Aaron and his wife Jessica, and Alyssa and her husband Joe. Alan was also an immensely proud grandfather to his cherished granddaughter, Olivia. He leaves behind his younger sister, Carol Abelli, whom he loved dearly. Alan is predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Janice, and his parents, Robert and Marguerite.
Alan grew up in Framingham and often fondly recalled his childhood-embracing the nickname "Pudge," while playing goalie for the Framingham Jets, where he won numerous championships, as well as for the formidable Framingham South Flyers. After high school, Alan attended Salem State College, where he continued to play hockey and earned a Bachelor's degree in English-a degree his kids took full advantage of for proofreading school papers over the years.
After college, Alan followed in his father's footsteps by beginning a career at Wentworth Institute of Technology. He spent 41 years there, starting as a groundskeeper and working his way up to become a prominent college administrator. Alan also served as a hockey coach and timekeeper, and volunteered for many years with alternative spring break trips, overseeing students involved in community service projects.
Alan spent the last 42 years as a Millvillian growing vegetables, caring for animals and enjoying small town life. Every summer, he would go back and forth to his family cottage in Provincetown Ma, a place he truly cherished. He was also a devoted member of Slatersville Congregational Church.
Throughout his life, Alan collected many titles, including Registrar, Coach, and Meals on Wheels volunteer, among others. However, the title he cherished most was "Dad". He poured his heart and soul into his children, always present at their events. He could not help but get involved, often taking on leadership roles-coaching baseball and hockey teams, serving as a den leader for Cub Scouts, and attending dance recitals and practices. This dedication continued with his granddaughter, Olivia.
Alan loved life. His big grin and infectious laugh filled every room, making everyone around him feel at ease. He was selfless, always going out of his way to help others in need. Alan was also an incredibly strong and determined man, as shown when he fought and overcame his alcohol dependence celebrating five years of sobriety on July 25th. A struggle few knew about but a battle his family was extremely proud that he overcame. He did not make these sacrifices for himself but for his kids-he would, and did, do anything to ensure their happiness. Alan will be deeply missed by all who knew him, as he touched countless hearts and lives. Rest easy, Dad-you did a great job.
