Alberta Mae Oostdyk

Alberta Mae Oostdyk (Dalrymple), age 93, of Ravenna, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2023, surrounded by loving family.
Alberta was born March 19, 1930 to John W. and Pearlea I. (Davidson) Dalrymple at the family farm on East Highland Avenue in Ravenna, being the seventh of eight children. She graduated from Ravenna High School with the class of 1948, married Jacob F. Oostdyk on Valentine's Day, 1948, and together they raised a family of four sons.
She worked for a time at the Cleveland Woolen Mills in Ravenna, and later as a seamstress at Ravenna Dry Cleaners. Alberta was a devoted wife and mother, volunteering in many capacities, including the Ravenna Fire Belles, den mother for local Cub Scouts, and room mother for her boys' elementary schools. Along with Jake and her in-laws, she was also active in the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association, the Portage County Police and Fire Retirees Chapter 32, the 48er's, as well as the Ravenna Garden Club. She also enjoyed having and working in her garden, often saying that the vegetables taste best out of the garden.
Alberta leaves behind four sons, Alan (Barb), Harold (Sharon), Tom (Pam) and Ron (Kathy), as well as grandchildren Aaron (Harmony) Oostdyk, Sarah (David) Birmingham, Michelle Oostdyk, Wendy (Paul) Combs, Phill Oostdyk, Aimee (Kevin) Corley, and eight great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Jake, grandsons Matthew Oostdyk and Nicholas Oostdyk, four brothers and three sisters.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Ravenna Methodist Church's Fellowship Hall on November 25th, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Portage Animal Protective League.
