Ms. Alberta Porter was born in Sunflower, Mississippi on March 11, 1939 to LeaDora and James Porter. Nine siblings were born to that union. Alberta (fondly known as Berta) was the eighth child (2nd youngest). Her parents moved from Oklahoma to Detroit, MI in 1952. She joined her parents and siblings in Detroit a few years later. She attended Northwestern High School during her teenage years. She was determined to finish her education. She went to school later in life to achieve her GED. She worked at Better Made Potato Chips, Top Hat restaurant, and the Salvation Army. She also worked as a school aide at Joyce Middle School in Detroit. She was a very hard worker who was determined to take care of her family. She diligently raised a daughter and 5 sons on her own for the majority of their childhood. She loved the outdoors and relaxing on the beach. She enjoyed dancing, taking walks, riding her bike, and playing golf. She never wanted to disappoint anyone. She loved putting smiles on everyone's face, even total strangers. With that being said, she was always honest with you. She said what was on her heart all the time. She had a deep love of the bible and people. She searched for the truth of God's word for many years. After being in false religion most of her lifer, she started to attend congregation meeting at the Kingdom Hall to see her sons give parts of the program. In 2014, her youngest son took his Alberta and his family on a trip to New York to visit Brooklyn Bethel, Wallkill, and Patterson Bethel. As you may have seen in the slideshow, she really enjoyed having lunch at Wallkill with her future brothers and sisters. Shortly after the trip, she started to bible study and acknowledged that God's name was Jehovah. She was eventually baptized in 2017. She attended the East Livonia and the Avondale Congregation prior to her death. She really enjoyed studying and commenting at the Watchtower study. She made sure to comment at every meeting. She appreciated the commendation she received for her comments. She was a loving friend, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and auntie. She will be deeply missed by everyone who met her and got to knew her. Both parents and her oldest child, Alicia (Fat) Porter preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory sons: Gregory, Paul, Alonzo (Jeneene), Fernando (Anita), Antwan (Lynn), her siblings: preceded her in death, Della Mae, Andrew, Corrine, Emma, Willie Mae, Lottie B. and survived by her sister Minnie and brother Herman (Uncle Herman). Grandchildren: Celeste, Nakita, Reasia, Madison, Melissa, Alyssa, Jameika, Tenia, Harmoni, Roman, Antwan Porter, Jr, Asija. Great grandchildren: Jamari, Nariah, Tanila, Kevin, Denzel, and Ramsey. And a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Alberta, please visit our floral store.
