Alex Graham, 30, of Louisville, passed away on January 23rd, 2023.
Alex was born on June 30th, 1992 to his parents Gina and Glenn Graham. He struggled a great deal in his short life here, but always shook off the pain with his tremendous resilience. He and Gina often joked that God put the two of them together for a reason. He was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor at the age of 1. Gina is sure God's reason was that Alex needed a strong mom that could not only love and nurture him, but could also advocate and find appropriate care for his condition.
Alex was a prodigy of light, love, and laughter. Spreading joy and kindness was his gift from God. He spread this to anyone willing to receive. He had friends from all walks of life and never judged anyone. If you were kind and accepted him, he was even more kind in return.
Alex loved music and dancing. He went to the Mellwood Tavern every Sunday to listen to his favorite band, The Pranksters, and referred to this as "Church." The Pranksters and his friends from the Mellwood became his extended family and he loved everyone there deeply. From there, he ventured out to several music festivals and collected friends from all over. He especially enjoyed Wiley's Last Resort in Whitesburg, KY. He loved that place so much that he wanted to share it with his father, so he spread his ashes there, on top of "Mars." Alex had too many friends to mention everyone by name but know that he loved each of you. You were his tribe. With you, he was able to be his true self.
Alex is survived by his mother, Gina D. Graham; stepfather, Brent Baskett; sister, Molly Graham; stepsisters, Ashley Baskett and Meg Canther; stepmother, Billy Graham; grandparents, Sandy and Gary Fuller; his many aunts, uncles and cousins; his cat, Esmeralda, and his dog, Maggie Mae; along with his entire extended family and friends that he collected along the way.
Services will be held at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, on Tuesday, January 31st, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. This won't be a typical service, so dress comfortably and casually in bright and festive colors. Bring a smile and a hug and your best dance moves. Alex loves a party, especially one that celebrates him.
For his musician friends -- if you would like to play and/or sing something, feel free to perform your craft. A microphone will be set up and ready.
When you think of Alex, remember the feeling of his bear hug, infectious baritone laugh, sweet smile, and the way he moved to the music. As you travel through life, accept others without prejudice and always be kind.
