VERHELLE, Alex - age 84, of Farwell, formerly of Fenton, died Thursday, November 24, 2006 at Brian's House Hospice, Bay City. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 AM Monday, November 27, 2006 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton with Rev. Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Saturday and 2-4 and 5-8 PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. A scripture service will be held 4 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Brian's House Hospice, 3140 W. Campus Dr., Bay City. Mr. Verhelle was born May 26, 1922 in Moline, IL, the son of Alfons and Martha (DelMonte) Verhelle. He married Margaret Mary Potter on January 17, 1942 in Albion. Mr. Verhelle was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He had resided in Fenton for 40 years and lived in Farwell since 1987. Mr. Verhelle managed Farmer's Gas and Oil in Fenton for over 30 years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton and St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Clare. Surviving are: wife, Margaret; 10 children, Tim Verhelle and wife, Donna of Fenton, James Verhelle and wife, Karen of Fenton, Daniel Verhelle and wife, Kim of Farwell, Thomas Verhelle and wife, Fern of Fenton, Michael Verhelle and wife, Carol of Fenton, Patrick Verhelle and wife, Kathy Trout of Gaines, Alexis Verhelle of FL, Matthew Verhelle and wife, Nancy of Fenton, Jeffery Verhelle of Fenton, Blaine Verhelle and wife, Kendra of TX; 33 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: two brothers and two grandchildren. Friends may share an online condolence or post a tribute at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
