Alexander Boschi Obituary Mr. Alexander E. Boschi, 92, of
Amsterdam, NY entered into eternal life on February 13, 2025. He was born on December 12, 1932, in Amsterdam to the late Eugene and Marina Boschi. In addition to his parents, Alex was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Phoebe Gisondi, his son John, and his brother Richard.
Alexander is survived by his daughter Sharon Hammer (Dave) of Indianapolis, IN: grandchildren, Christopher Hammer and Ashlee Miller (Josh); great-grandchildren Micah Hammer, Averi Miller and Kinley Miller all of Indianapolis; sisters Eugenia Hojohn and Roberta Jones (David); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Alex graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1950 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Ithaca College in 1954. Following graduation from college, Alex enlisted in the US Army where he proudly served in Austria and Germany from 1954-1956. Alex later received his Master of Science Degree in Guidance from SUNY Albany and attained permanent certification as an Instrumental Music Educator, Secondary School Principal and Guidance Counselor. Alex was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity and a member of AFM Local 132-314 Musicians Union.
Mr. Boschi began his illustrious 35-year teaching career in 1956 at Fonda-Fultonville Central School where he taught music to students from elementary through high school, was the band director for the concert, stage, athletic, and marching bands and was Music Department chairman. Throughout his career, Alex was instrumental in securing numerous professional musicians to perform at FFCS including Woody Herman and Buddy Rich.
Alex met his future wife at FFCS, ironically where she was a guidance counselor and one of two people who interviewed him for the music position. Alex and Phoebe married two years later and were always grateful to FFCS for bringing them together. Throughout his teaching career, Mr. Boschi touched the lives of countless students whom he not only taught music and mentored but also was a role model and inspiration to them as well as his colleagues.
Alex retired from his teaching career in 1991 but remained extremely active in his community and the surrounding Capital District. Alex, along with Phoebe, was active in the Century Club and Festival of Trees, served on the Board of Directors and Vice-President of the Amsterdam Area Community Concert Association, Board of Directors of NYSUT Retiree Council 12, the New York State School Music Association, MENC, and the Montgomery County Music Educators Association. He also served as the Elected Trustee of the NYSRTA DeComier Fund, Public Relations/Government Relations representative for the Montgomery County NYSSMA, was a Charter Member of the Board of Directors of Montgomery County Education and Cultural Council on the Arts. Most recently Alex was the NYSSMA State Chairman for Music In Our Schools Month where for many years he was in charge of scheduling NYS school performing organizations for performances at the Empire State Plaza. He was appointed by NYS Senate to the Board of Directors of the Empire State Plaza Performing Arts Center Corporation, a member of NYS Retired Teachers Association where he was the Eastern Zone assistant treasurer and Conference Delegate for many years, and a member of Upper Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association.
For many years Alex enjoyed gardening, reading, and traveling with his wife and friends. His greatest joys, however, were his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was always the first to talk about their accomplishments and loved being part of their lives whether from near or far.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone at Hillcrest Spring Residential Adult Living for their love, care, support, and kindness over the past four years as Alex enjoyed and thrived in his new home and loved interacting and playing the piano for other residents.
