Alfred Melvin Heiberg Jr., 79, of Hawley, MN, died September 2, 2023, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Alfred was born August 3, 1944, in Hawley, MN, the youngest of 10 children of Alfred and Mamie (Depuis) Heiberg. He attended grade school in Hawley. After his parents died in October 1958, he lived with his sister in Brooklyn Center, MN and graduated from high school in Minneapolis in 1964.
Alfred's first job was as a bus boy for Greyhound. He later worked for Northwestern Box Company. Alfred enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era and served in Japan, the Philippines, and the Hawaiian Islands during his four years of service.
After his discharge from the Navy, Alfred worked for General Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. He moved back to Hawley in 1982 and worked as a farm laborer and at Carl's Lefse, jobs he greatly enjoyed. He later retired and enjoyed staying busy with yardwork and weeding. He led a quiet life and enjoyed his privacy, but he also enjoyed taking trips to the casino and watching the Minnesota Twins.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents and 7 siblings: Helmer Heiberg, Laura Braseth, Lawrence Heiberg, Max Heiberg, Irene Carter and two infant siblings, Leonard and Myrtle. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Jane Pearson and Flora Braseth, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 11, 2023, at 2:00 P.M., with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M., at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Hawley, MN. Interment will be at St. Francis Xavier's Cemetery in Lake Park, MN.
