Algene (Al) Lewis Bradbury
December 4, 1933 - November 8, 2024
Algene (Al) Lewis Bradbury, 90, of Golden Valley, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024. Al is remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. His warmth, humor, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Al is survived by his devoted wife, Marty; his brother Warren (Jackie); sister-in-law Mary; his children Phillip (Donna), Kiersten Good (Sam), Jennifer Petzke (Scott), and Sheri Simpson (Jeff); along with grandchildren Christopher, Justin (Tina), Amber (Dan), Nick (Kaitlyn), Sarah (Jim), Lizzy, Avery, Wyatt, and Will; and great-grandchildren Sophia, Addie, Levi, Mason, Emmett, and Reece. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Bradbury and Pearl Ostlund; his former wife, ElMaureen; infant son, Kyle; sister Paula Dykstra (Don); and brother John.
Born in Neillsville, Wisconsin, on December 4, 1933, Al graduated from high school in Lakefield, MN, in 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served at the Postgraduate Naval Academy in Monterey, CA, managing the snack bar for officers' wives and children. He later served as a radar man on the USS Calvert and was a veteran of the Korean War.
After his military service, Al attended the University of Minnesota, where he joined the Sigma Nu fraternity. He married ElMaureen Grove, with whom he had three children: Phillip, Kiersten, and infant son Kyle. After being widowed, Al married Marty Cook, with whom he had two daughters, Jenny and Sheri.
A lifelong insurance professional, Al's career reflected his dedication to helping others. He was writing policies until 2023. He was an active member of Messiah Church, Toastmasters, the Zurrah Shrine, and the VFW, and he volunteered at the VA for many years, transporting patients and connecting with fellow veterans.
Al cherished time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always supporting them in sports, scouting activities, and music programs. He and Marty shared a love of travel, cruises, and treasured time with friends.
Al's legacy of love, generosity, and humor will be carried on by his family and all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 7th at Messiah Church, 17805 County Road 6, Plymouth, MN. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m. Private family burial at Fort Snelling.
