Alice Florine Benney passed away peacefully on December 25, 2023, at the age of 99, in
Dripping Springs, Texas. Born on August 1, 1924, in
Ranger, Texas, to Jesse and Pearlie Nixon, Alice's life was a testament to her resilience and unwavering spirit.
Alice grew up during a time of simplicity and hard work. She graduated from Austin High School, where she laid the foundation for her strong work ethic. As a teenager, she worked diligently in the cotton fields and sold watermelons to earn extra money. Her industrious nature led her to a job with a watchmaker in downtown Austin, where she sometimes received watches as payment. This early experience honed her meticulous attention to detail, a trait that served her well throughout her life.
Her career path eventually led her to the IRS, where she excelled as a tax examiner and rose to the rank of a respected supervisor. Alice's professional achievements were a source of pride for her family and an inspiration to those who worked alongside her.
After retiring, Alice's unwavering commitment to service shone brightly as she and her husband, A. H. "Buck" Benney, dedicated six years to volunteering with Child Evangelism in
Warrenton, Missouri, in the late '80s and early '90s. Her passion for nurturing young minds extended to her role in teaching the youth at Friendship Baptist Church and her faithful membership at the Baptist Church of Driftwood in her later years.
Alice's volunteerism was not confined to religious endeavors; she also gave her time generously to the Dripping Springs Library, the Dripping Springs Elementary School Library, and the Chamber of Commerce. Her 25 years of outstanding dedication and service did not go unnoticed, as she was honored with an award that celebrated her commitment to her community.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Pearlie Nixon; her husband, A. H. "Buck" Benney; and her sister, Velma "Billie" England.
Her legacy lives on through her sons, Rex Bible and his wife Lois, Steven Bible and his wife Marshia.
