Alice was predeceased by her parents Joseph Whiteneck and Alice Petrisko Whiteneck, brothers Joseph, Francis and George Whiteneck, loving husband James Bagshaw, and beloved niece Ellen Whiteneck. She is survived by her loving daughter Sheree Rust, her adored grandchild, and many beloved family members and dear friends.
Alice was known for her fun-loving spirit and fierce devotion to family and friends. The daughter of a coal miner and a silk weaver, she grew up with close family right on her block. She and her cousins walked to school and church, picked huckleberries, carried coal, hiked the hills, shared Sunday suppers and got into mischief together.
She moved to Manhattan, making good friends and experiencing the excitement of working in the city. She lived a bit in New England. She married Jim and they moved to New Jersey.
Alice was famous for her Thanksgiving feasts. All the family and extended family and friends were invited to eat, play, watch football and tell stories. She made everyone feel welcomed all year long.
Alice was widowed young, shortly after moving to Sarasota. Her amazing neighbor, Sharon of blessed memory, befriended her, taught her to bowl, brought her to bingo, and introduced her to so many lovely women who became her friends. She was also blessed with caring neighbors who treated her like family.
Recently she kept company with Bob, walking at the Bayfront, playing cards, attending church services, and sharing meals.
A Celebration of Life will take place Tuesday December 14 at 10 am at Toale Brothers Funeral Home - Gulf Gate Chapel, 6903 S. Tamiami Tr., Sarasota. Visitation is at 10, the Memorial Service at 11.
