Alice Joyce Summers, 83, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on December 5, 2021. Born April 3, 1938 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Stella Belle Hoch and Charles Melvin Hoch. Mrs. Summers graduated from the Chambersburg Area Senior High School in 1956. She was a dedicated class treasurer and enjoyed participating, planning, and organizing class reunions over many years. She was an artist and staff member for the Echo Yearbook, a member of the Glee Club, and a Senior Tri-Hi-Y participant. While attending high school, Joyce worked as a sales clerk at Tobey's, a women's apparel store, in Chambersburg. Joyce had a love of fashion and enjoyed interacting and assisting her customers. These skills led her to a sales associate job at the former Eyerly's Department Store and then to a management position at the Bon Ton Department Store where she eventually retired.
Throughout her life, Joyce enjoyed playing cards with members of her card club, going to Cowan's Gap State Park, cookouts, entertaining, and spending time at her cabin. She liked activities such as reading, listening to music, dancing, and shopping. She was a member of AARP and was a devoted, supportive, and loving mother and friend.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Stella Belle (Hoch) Neil and Charles Melvin Hoch; her brothers, Paul Hoch and Denny Neil; her aunt and uncle, Isabelle and Herb Winters; her grandparents, Grover and Cora Umberhocker; and her son-in-law, Philip Jablonski. She is survived by her spouse, R. Joe Summers; her daughter and son-in-law, Laurie (Summers) Stinson and Leigh Stinson; her daughter, Shelly (Summers) Jablonski; her nephew, Jason Neil; and her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Neil.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 10, 2021 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. A. May heavenly peace be with this wonderful lady with whom I danced in High School and on occasion at class of 56 CASHS reunions. Joyce was a truly wonderful human being in all respects, helping her family, friends, neighbors, strangers, stray animals . She contributed so much to our high school class for over 60 years. Joyce was the very dearest of friends to me. Such pleasant visits to the cabin and having a hot dog and pepsi at Cowans Gap. I will truly miss her and know such a wonderful human being must now be in heaven. My love and blessings to her family. Eddie
