Alice Ann Schlund Walsh entered into Eternal Rest on November 20, 2025 in Louisville, KY. She was born on September 21, 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio to Jane (Green) and Charles Schlund. She was the second of three children, and the only girl. A fine musician from a young age, she earned money in high school as a pianist in a dance studio and a church organist. She attended Hoban Dominican High School in Cleveland and St. Mary of the Woods College (now Ohio Dominican University.) While in graduate school at Villanova University she met her future husband, Bill Walsh. They went to hear a performance of Faure's Requiem in Philadelphia on their first date and their course was set. They shared a 62 year marriage, a love for music and literature, a treasure of good friends, an abiding faith, and a deep commitment to their community.
Alice was a teacher by vocation. Over a 35 year career she taught English at Kent State University, Shawnee High School, IU Southeast, and taught English, religion, and music at St. Elizabeth of Hungry (later St. Rose) in Germantown. In retirement, Alice and Bill traveled widely in Canada and Europe as well as to Peru. They crossed the Atlantic Ocean six times by ocean liner, attended operas at the Lyric in Chicago and in opera houses in Europe, and they spent summers on Kelley's Island in Lake Erie Ohio, where Alice's brother John Schlund also had a house. Alice and Bill also spent retirement enjoying their 13 grandchildren and contributing to their community. Together with a small group of like-minded people, they were founders of the Casa Latina Catholic Worker on Woodbine and long time members of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Alice was also a docent at the Speed Art Museum and a volunteer at St. John Center.
Alice is preceded in death by her son, Patrick Walsh, her parents, her brother Mark Schlund, and her lifelong friend, Margaret Box. Left to cherish her memory are her husband William Walsh; her children William (Suha), Ann (Tom Jones), Jane, and Charles Walsh; 13 remarkable grandchildren, her first great-grandchild, and her brother John Schlund.
Visitation will be held at Bosse Funeral Home, 1355 Ellison Avenue on Tuesday, November 25 from 4 till 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Martin of Tours, 639 S. Shelby Street at noon on Wednesday, November 26th.
The family asks that expressions of sympathy be sent to St. John Center.
