Allan David Wickersham, 82, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025.
Allan was born on January 10, 1943, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the first son of Arthur Logan Wickersham and Margaret Broaddus Wickersham, who preceded him in death. Allan grew up with his brother, Beverly (Edna Laura) Wickersham, who survives him, and he was part of a large extended family of remarkable people. He took his place among them.
After attending the University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University, Allan spent his working life at IBM, from which he retired. He began as a postal clerk, gained entrance into a tool and die making program, and continued to rise-he retired as an engineering manager. That career gives some insight into his gifts, his drive, and his pursuit of excellence. To the knowledge of his family, Allan never encountered an engineering problem he could not eventually outsmart.
The pinnacle of and the reason for his success was his marriage to Gail (Kindred) Wickersham, in 1963. Over six decades together, Allan and Gail (who survives him) shared a full and wonderful life of mutual interests in nature, old cars, lighthouses, art, music, thunderstorms, and travel. They enjoyed just about anything, as long as they were together. Their two sons, David (Andrea) and Mark survive him, and are the greatest beneficiaries of the laughter-filled life and loving home Allan and Gail created.
Allan is also survived by grandchildren Elijah (Abbi), Sophie, Garrett (fiancé Katelyn), and Lily and by one great-grandchild, Ophelia. Other extended family includes sister-in-law Cheryl Powell, nieces Kelly Stitzer and Becky McDaniel, nephew Jon Powell (Jessica) and nephew Eric Wickersham (Amanda). Other great nieces and great nephews also survive.
Visitation will be held at the Combs, Parsons, Collins Funeral Home on November 22, 2025, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. with services immediately following.
Pallbearers are Elijah Wickersham, Garrett Wickersham, Eric Wickersham, Jacob McDaniel, Jon Powell, Wesley Powell, Marshall McVey, and Glenn Sandlin. Honorary pallbearers are James Hoskins and members of the Central Kentucky Model A Club.
The world was brighter with Allan in it and is dimmer without him. His example, his laughter, and his love are missed, and will be carried on by his family and friends.
It was Allan's wish that those wishing to make charitable donations in his memory do so to the Madison County Animal Shelter.
