Allen James Spencer
September 2, 1959 - September 14, 2023
Lafayette: Allen James Spencer made a peaceful transition from this world taking his final nap into glory on September 14, 2023, at 64 years of age. He was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, on September 2, 1959, to the late Eddie Spencer and Vivian Nixon Spencer. Growing up in Crowley, Louisiana, he accepted Christ as his savior during his early years at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Allen, the sixth of seven children, was affectionately known by his family as "Butch" and "Allen James," while many of his later friends kindly referred to him as "HP."
After completing his secondary education in 1977 at Crowley High School, Allen pursued further studies at The University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL), which is now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL). In the spring of 1980, he joined the Gamma Delta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and in 1983, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree. Throughout his life he forged enduring bonds with his family and friends while actively contributing to his community, serving as a mentor to children, and participating in the Knights of St. Peter Claver.
Known for his kindness and willingness to help those in need, Allen was a beloved figure in his community bringing joy to everyone he encountered. He pursued various careers working for the Lafayette Community Correctional Center, the United States Postal System, Orkin Pest Control, Wilson's/Service Merchandise, and various retail management positions with his final employment being with the Coca-Cola Bottling Company.
The greatest joy in Allen's life came nearly 13 years ago from the birth of his beautiful daughter, Melodie Elise. As a devoted father, he cherished every moment with her lighting up with a smile whenever they were together. Melodie was the center of his world and he lovingly referred to her as "his baby girl." To everyone who knew him Allen was celebrated as an exceptional father dedicating his life to his daughter's happiness. He was also an amazing brother, fraternal brother, brother-in-law, godfather, uncle, cousin, employee, and friend whose presence will be dearly missed by all.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Spencer and Vivian Nixon Spencer. His maternal grandparents, Ada Volrie and Nathaniel Nixon, along with his paternal grandparents Ambrose Spencer and Ella Harmon Spencer.
He leaves behind cherished memories to his beloved daughter, Melodie Elise Spencer (Mary Spencer), as well as six siblings: Wilfred Scott (Faye), Barbara Spencer, Adam Spencer (Edna), Marylen S. Rogers (John), Leo Paul Spencer (Natalie), and Lisa S. Goodwin (Nilton). He is also affectionately remembered by nieces: Tara, Megan, Kayla, and Kim, and nephews: Wilfred Vallien, Wilfred Scott, Johnny, Marvin, Caley, Adam Jr., Nilton Jr, and Spencer, in addition to many great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives, and friends.
