Alma (Harris) Carroll passed away September 7, 2024. She was born in Boston, MA on September 15, 1927, to Bernard and Ruth Harris. She graduated from Burke High School for Girls, Dorchester, MA and Framingham State University, Framingham, MA.
She moved to Brooklyn, NY for her internship at Beth Israel Hospital and then went to work in the Bronx working as a registered dietitian at Beth Abraham Home.
In 1963, she married Paul Carroll. They had one son, Michael Carroll. In 1966, they moved to Pearl River, New York where she spent the rest of her years.
She continued in her career until the age of 80. Many of those years were spent working at Nyack Manor Nursing Home in Valley Cottage, New York. She also taught nutrition and did consulting work for local adult homes.
Alma was an avid knitter making hats and blankets, and scarves for everyone she knew and even some she didn't. She also enjoyed baking and desserts with a particular love of chocolate. She spent many years active in Beth Am Temple in Pearl River. She celebrated her Bat Mitzvah there in 1982 and also served a term as Sisterhood President.
Alma was always known for speaking her mind and never lacked for an opinion. She also loved good sales. She was a steadfastly independent woman before it was considered the norm.
She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Carroll, who died in 1986, as well as by her three siblings Stanley, Sheila, and Sydney and their spouses. Alma is survived by her son, Michael Carroll, and several nieces and nephews. She had many friends, some who she truly considered family.
A special thanks to the staff of The Willows at Ramapo Manor for their care and kindness for her in her final year.
