Alma Delena Gantney, affectionately known as Almie, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2023, at the age of 77 in Creve Coeur, Missouri. She was born on May 26, 1946, in Black, Missouri, to her loving parents, Myrtle and Cecil Nelson. Alma was a remarkable woman who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
From a young age, Alma was known for her active and vibrant personality. She excelled both academically and athletically, being a dedicated student and a skilled volleyball player during her time at Lesterville High School. Alma had a zest for life and enjoyed engaging in various activities. She loved playing volleyball, tennis, horseshoes, and bocce ball. Whenever the sun was shining, Alma could be found by the river with her friends or visiting family in Oklahoma, basking in the warmth by the pool.
Alma's greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and friends. She cherished every moment shared with her brother Charles Nelson and wife Sue on the family farm near Black, Missouri, her daughter Angie St. Gemme and husband Keith of Owasso, Oklahoma, and her nieces and nephews. Alma was especially proud of her granddaughters Celeste Sorrells and husband Corby, Christin Posey and husband Chris, Cayli Price and husband David, and Cymber Sletten and husband Christian. She was also blessed to spend time with eight great-grandchildren: Cydney, Charissa, Clayton, Lucy, Teagan, Camrie, Kena, and Thomas.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Richard Gantney, her sisters Jaunita Nelson, Dorothy Lee Martin, Zelma Phillips, and Linda Asher, and her great-grandson Brayden William Shelton.
Professionally, Alma dedicated 49 years of her life to the Suntrup Automotive family, where she began as a phone operator and worked her way up to become Chief Financial Officer. Her loyalty and dedication were unmatched, leaving a lasting impact on her colleagues and the business.
In her leisure time, Alma found solace in the company of her niece Patti, engaging in activities such as reading a good book, playing Yahtzee, or enjoying a game of cards.
