Alonzo Johnston, Jr., a devoted husband, father, and friend, passed away on May 13, 2025, in Springfield, Tennessee, at the age of 79. Born on July 9, 1945, in Winchester, Kentucky, he grew to exemplify the values of kindness, love, and faith throughout his life.
Alonzo dedicated many years of his career as a Tool Dye Grinder, ultimately retiring from S&S Precisions. His work ethic was matched by his commitment to his community as a volunteer firefighter in Louisville, Kentucky, where he made a meaningful impact on those around him.
A proud graduate of Clark County High School, Alonzo began his career after completing two years of trade school, where he learned the skill of welding. His professional accomplishments are only outshone by his proudest achievements in life—loving the Lord and serving his church and community. Alonzo was an active member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, involved in Sunday School and ushering committee. His dedication extended to caring for the cemetery and church grounds where he mowed for many years.
Alonzo cherished family activities and created lasting memories while camping at Bailey Point in Barren Lake, Kentucky, and enjoying Bledsoe Creek State Park. He was known for his impressive gardening skills, tending to a garden that often yielded more than the family could consume; he selflessly shared the bounty with residents at the Holiday House. Alonzo also contributed to the church by providing security for Vacation Bible School and was actively engaged in Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief, where he and his wife Denise served as "Chainsaw team members."
In addition to his community involvement, Alonzo enjoyed hobbies that brought him closer to nature, particularly hunting, fishing, and camping. He had a strong personality rooted in family values and a deep connection to his faith, which guided him throughout his life.
Alonzo is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Denise Johnston; children, Phillip Ray (Kandi) Johnston and Erin Johnston; and grandchildren,
Andrew Johnston, Chelsea Hammonds, and Brent Hammonds. He also leaves behind a host of great-grandchildren.
