Alva K. "Bud" Swartwood, of Columbus, passed from this life at 12:38 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2025, at The Belmont Health & Rehabilitation in Columbus. Born on April 7, 1933, in Columbus, Bud lived a full and vibrant life that touched many within his community.
Bud was a proud United States Army Veteran who served his country with honor in Germany during the Korean War.
For 42 years, Bud worked at Cummins Engine Company, where his commitment and expertise were well-respected by his colleagues. In addition to his career at Cummins, Bud was a dedicated farmer, a testament to his love for the land and the outdoors.
Bud's life was marked by his steadfast devotion to his family. He was a loving husband to his wife, Delores C. Horn Swartwood, whom he married on November 11, 1955. Their union was one of mutual respect and deep affection until her passing on November 25, 2018. Bud was also a supportive father to his sons, Kenneth Dale Swartwood of Columbus and the late Michael Lee Swartwood. Bud's kindness and generosity extended beyond his family to his many nieces and nephews.
A man of faith, Bud was a long-time member of East Columbus Christian Church. His belief in the teachings of Christ guided him in his daily life and provided him with comfort and strength in times of need.
Preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Delores; his son, Michael; and his sisters, Patricia and Thelma Gelfius, Bud leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and integrity.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2025, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Ron Bridgewater will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Bud will be laid to rest next to his wife and son in the Garden of Faith at the Garland Brook Cemetery.
In memory of Bud, memorial contributions may be made to East Columbus Christian Church.

There wasn't a nicer guy than "Bud". We will miss him. We would often see him at Bob Evans Restuarant. Also, with his deceased wife, and son Mike.
