Alvin Edward Kocher, who truly "lit up our lives," was peacefully called into the eternal light of the Lord by Jesus on Tuesday, January 21,2025 at his home. He was born on April 19, 1932 in Aurora, Il to the late Cletus and Lucy (Sittler) Kocher. He was raised in Naperville on a dairy farm with his nine siblings. His surviving siblings are Arlene Brands, Lucille Kocher and Charles (Nancy) Kocher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cletus and Lucy Kocher; four brothers, Rev. Donald Kocher, Richard "Dick" Kocher, Delmar Kocher, Harold "Fritz" Kocher, two sisters, Shirley Grant, and Diane Bohnstedt.
Alvin proudly served in the United States Army from June 15, 1951, to May 5, 1955. He was assigned to Company C, 15th Engineer Battalion, where he served as a light vehicle driver, including a deployment overseas in Nuremberg, Germany.
On 9/1/1974 Alvin married the love of his life, Joan (Streff) Kocher. Together they raised three children: Denise Iskowitz, Bristol, Il, Jason (Diane) Kocher, Chicago, Il, and Eric (Kim) Kocher, Yorkville, Il. Alvin was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren: Brandon Iskowitz, Maya Kocher, Owen Iskowitz and Mitchell Kocher as well as three fur-grandbabies Murphy, Maisy and Oliver. He thoroughly enjoyed his career as an electrician for Gregory Electric in Naperville from 1957-1995 (38 years of service).
Alvin took immense pride in his yard, where his home was nestled among more than three acres of stunning trees, creating a peaceful and picturesque sanctuary. He enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. He loved riding his tractor aka "clunker". He was so talented at fixing anything that many would say, "If you want the job done right, you've got the right guy". He enjoyed watching golf to relax. We were so blessed to have had him in our lives.
Visitation will be Friday, January 31, 2025 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM with a 6:45 PM eulogy at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home, 3952 Turner Ave., Plano. The Mass will be celebrated on February 1, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 406 Walnut St., Yorkville.
