Andrejs Rave, 96, of Chicago, IL passed away on October 10th, 2024, peacefully in his sleep. He was born July 10th, 1928, in Rezekne, Latvia, the younger of two brothers, to Janis and Alvine (nee Melderis) Rave. Andrejs' family, as many families in Latvia, fled Communist Soviet Russia Occupation during World War II and settled in a United Nations displaced person's camp in Germany. The family was later sponsored by a generous family which allowed them passage to the US where they settled in Kalamazoo, MI. Inta and Andrejs met in the US and married in 1959 in Chicago.
Andrejs continued school at the end of WW II in Germany and later graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy. Post graduation, Andrejs had several positions as an Accountant, most notably with the Brunswick Corporation and Mitsubishi Electric. He later earned his MBA from Roosevelt University in Chicago.
Andrejs was very active in the Latvian community and enjoyed volunteering at church and other events to uphold the Latvian spirit and traditions in exile while also being an avid volleyball player.
Andrejs belonged to the Latvian fraternity Gersicania, which was founded in 1947 by the Baltic University in Exile in Germany. Andrejs helped lead efforts in the US to continue the Latvian fraternity traditions.
