Andrea Leigh "Andi" Naugle

Andrea Leigh Naugle, affectionately known as "Andi," passed away on October 17, 2025, with her two loving sons by her side. Born August 13, 1956, in Oxnard, CA, Andi grew up in a Navy family, moving every six months to two years and making friends everywhere she went-a gift that stayed with her throughout life. After a brief time in Honolulu before Hawaii became a state, her family settled mainly in Norfolk's Larchmont neighborhood, where she attended Larchmont Elementary, Blair Middle, and Maury High School.
From an early age, Andi loved the outdoors. In middle school, she discovered horseback riding and never looked back-competing tirelessly and earning so many blue ribbons that she covered her bedroom walls with them like wallpaper. She even owned her own horse as a young adult. After high school, Andi attended Florida Institute of Technology, but her love for the beach outweighed academics, so she transferred to Elon College (now Elon University), earning a BS in Medical Technology. Later, her passion for teaching led her to Old Dominion University for certification, and she spent 22 years as a math and science teacher at Princess Anne Middle School. She also taught at Bayside Middle School in her early years as a teacher. Known for her humor and encouragement, Andi created a classroom where students felt comfortable yet challenged. Many returned years later to thank her for inspiring their success-a testament to her dedication and heart. She was honored as Teacher of the Year multiple times.
In retirement, Andi embraced golf with the same enthusiasm she had for riding-often seen at Red Wing squeezing in nine holes or charming her way into a free round before sunset. She even bought a bigger car just to keep her clubs with her at all times. Her creativity flourished too; she transformed seashells, oyster shells, and sea glass into beautiful art, selling pieces in local shops. She could spot a tiny piece of sea glass from 100 feet away! Never one to sit still, Andi also founded "Seaside Pet Service," caring for dogs as if they were her own-walking them at First Landing Park, hosting them in her home, and staying overnight when needed. She also found herself overbooked at times but gladly took on the challenge.
Her greatest joy came from being "Mimi" to her grandchildren, Sienna and Knox. Her love for them was limitless, and they adored every moment with her. As her granddaughter said, "Mimi is now a beautiful cardinal, and every time we see one, it is our Mimi."
Andi's vibrant, independent spirit-once a "wild child" that kept her parents on their toes-made her unforgettable to family, friends, and everyone she met.
She is survived by her sons Alex (Chelsea) and Jay Kellam; grandchildren Sienna and Knox; sister Kim Stewart; brothers Eric and Matthew (Regina) Naugle; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, Capt. James O. Naugle, USN (Ret.), and Jeannette C. Naugle.
Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA in honor of her love for animals. A private family burial will be held the morning of Saturday November 8, 2025, followed by a Memorial Service at 12 noon at HD Oliver Laskin Road Funeral Apartments and a reception at Waterman's Restaurant, The Attic at 1pm.
