New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, for Andrew Gonsoulin, 97, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rev. Keith Landry will be the Celebrant.
Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home, and will continue Saturday, from 8:00 am until 10:30 am. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Friday.
Mr. Gonsoulin was born on March 25, 1927, in New Iberia, to the late Ulysses Gonsoulin, Sr. and Edna Berard Gonsoulin. A lifelong sugar cane farmer, he and his late brother, Daniel, hold a patent for a drain cleaner, that is still in use today. Mr. Gonsoulin was an active member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he would help in many ways. He also enjoyed flying his plane and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his daughters, Darlene G. French, Theresa G. Webster, Meleesa G. Broussard (Matt), and Annette G. McKelvey (David); grandchildren, Frank A. French, IV (Lacie), Bjhan A. French, Jade F. Fontenot (Shaun), and Dylan W. Broussard (Johnae); great grandchildren, Amelie Fontenot, Reese Fontenot, Isabella French, Sydney Fontenot, and James Broussard; sister, Florence Gossen (Gilbert); sisters-in-law, Hilda Blanchard and Ruth Freyou.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Helen Freyou Gonsoulin; sons-in-law, Frank A. French, III and Ronald Webster; brothers, Daniel Gonsoulin and Ulysses Gonsoulin, Jr.; sisters, Alice Estilette, Edna Hayes, Alma Kilchrist, Louise Kilchrist, Lucille Taylor, Noelie Lastrapes, Eunice Migues, and Jeanette Richard; and a brother-in-law who he was very close to, Harvey Blanchard.
Pallbearers will be Bjhan French, Aiken French, Matt Broussard, Dylan Broussard, Shaun Fontenot, Dave McKelvey, and Ronald Gonsoulin.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. James Falterman, Jr. and Mr. Gonsoulin’s caregivers, Liz Hurst, Denise Kilchrist, Louise Jefferson, Paula Scott, Doris Boutte, Elva Ford, Judy Miller, Bert Kilchrist, David Jefferson, and Twana Clay, for their care and compassion.
